Fishing Committee
Bobbie Harris-Fishing Chairperson
Here on Lake Shawnee we’ve had a terrific summer as far as fishing goes! Our fish have been healthy and there have been numerous reports of pulling up 5-6 pounders! This is only possible because of our LS members’ support and one heck of a donation from Wayne DelRosso.
On July 18th poor weather was expected and Mother Nature did not disappoint! Due to lightning we were sent to safe havens, but not before some decent fish were caught. Bobbie Harris finished in first (31”). Second place went to Todd Lipchus (26”). Big bass belonged to Todd’s brother Dig Lipchus (18.25”) and Tom Preston and Rich Malay tied for largest Pickerel (19”).
Sadly the adult August 22nd event wasn’t as well attended as the kids! Even though an intimate group of 6 anglers competed, a record number of Bass were caught (12).
Bobbie Harris’ name was called for 1st place (71.25”), biggest pickerel (17.5”) as well as sharing the biggest bass (17.25”) award with Lavern Appler. Arman Oveissi added to his angler of the year points landing 3 Bass (39.75”) for second place.
As the summer ends there are still 2 more tournaments to cast out your lines for the 2026 season. September 26 is an evening event (4-9 pm), always well attended and a fun time. Oct. 17th will be a later morning start time (730 am-130 pm).
Our LS kids ruled during our 3rd annual fishing clinic and sunfish tournament on Aug 14th! Casey Cumberton & Logan Zimmer mentored our ‘25 kids’ champ, Harrison Ward, who stepped right up and assisted in managing a record number of participants (19) from ages 3 to 13. It was a happy day all around, absolutely beautiful weather conditions and the kids set a record with over 80 catches! The enthusiasm we saw was incredibly heartwarming and it is what Chrissy Cumberton, Andy Zimmer and fishing committee members Marcia Farber, Verny Appler, Glen Wilson and Tom Preston strive for! Fish & Wildlife officer Allen Sutton returned this year to start the day and helped support our anglers.
Hot dogs & chips were enjoyed before raffling off some really awesome donations by Cathy & Vinny Miller, Su Bedell, Chrissy & Kevin Cumberton, Marcia Farber and Verny Appler and of course the presentation of awards.
Tyler Fedo was on fire and pulled up 19 fish to win the most fish category and
Eli Plunkett was absolutely ecstatic getting a trophy for his largest sunfish! These are the days that memories are made of and for sure these youngins’ will talk about them for years and years to come! To say it simply, it was a spectacular event enjoyed by all!
The Lake Shawnee Club maintains an active & self-sustaining fishing committee who organize all fishing contests on the lake and helps to advise the Board of Governors on fish stocking, etc. All proceeds from contests and any purchase of optional fishing badges all go directly toward fishing committee activities.
If you missed our series start in April please consider dusting off the rod & reels and joining us for the 4 remaining events.
Even though we are a private lake all fishermen are required to obtain a NJ State Fishing License.
Although not required, the Club also sells fishing badges at $3.00 each which goes to help fund the fishing committee activities. Badges can be purchased each year at the Club Office.
In addition to the Club’s standing rules, boaters on Lake Shawnee must adhere and comply with all NJ State Boating regulations.
